Position overview
Atlantis Strength has been designing and building premium strength equipment in Laval since 1982, with machines now training athletes in more than 65 countries. As a Mechanical Engineer / Industrial Designer on our Engineering and R-D team, you will shape the next generation of plate-loaded and selectorized machines, from the first sketch to full production.
Working alongside machinists, welders and elite athletes, you will translate biomechanics into cams, pivots and load paths that feel right under heavy load. You will own your projects end to end, from 3D CAD modelling and functional prototyping to design-for-manufacturing reviews conducted directly on our own shop floor in Laval.
Key responsibilities
Design new strength machines from concept sketches to production-ready 3D CAD models
Engineer cams, pivots and linkages that deliver biomechanically accurate resistance curves
Analyze load paths and structural integrity to meet our 10-year frame warranty standard
Build and test functional prototypes with athletes and coaches, iterating on feel and ergonomics
Produce complete technical drawings, tolerances and bills of materials for the plant
Lead design-for-manufacturing reviews with the machining, welding and assembly teams
Select materials, bearings, pulleys, cables and upholstery components for durability and serviceability
Run FEA simulations to validate frames and moving assemblies under extreme loads
Document design changes and manage revisions throughout the product lifecycle
Support production with fixtures, jigs and troubleshooting during product launches
Benchmark competitor equipment and integrate feedback from clients in more than 65 countries
Contribute to continuous improvement of existing machines based on field data
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or industrial design
3 to 5 years of experience designing mechanical products or machinery
Advanced proficiency with 3D parametric CAD software such as SolidWorks
Solid understanding of statics, kinematics and mechanics of materials
Knowledge of steel fabrication processes including welding, machining and powder coating
Ability to work in French and English with international clients and suppliers
Additional skills
Strong sense of biomechanics and human movement
Rigorous attention to detail in tolerancing and documentation
Hands-on prototyping mindset and comfort on the shop floor
Clear communication with engineers and tradespeople alike
Assets
Membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec
Personal experience in strength training or competitive sports
Experience with FEA tools and the design of welded steel structures
Knowledge of ergonomic standards and anthropometric data
